Dear CIAS Juniors, Seniors, and Parents:
I regret to inform you of the following:
I met with Dr. Monique Collins at Pensacola State College on Friday of last week, (Nov. 8), and she informed me of drastic changes statewide (Florida) in dual enrollment procedures, due to the Florida Statutes that were passed in April. Our accrediting agency, FCCPSA, had informed us on August 13 that our local state college may implement these changes ( fccpsa.org/dualenrollmentwp.html ), but we were not informed of any changes by PSC until now. However, PSC has not updated our previous Articulation Agreement at this time. Because of these changes, we are consulting with our legal advisers and FCCPSA lawyers this week (starting today) to see how to proceed.
The changes are centering around a loop-hole in the new Statutes that allows state colleges to charge schools $71.98 per credit hour for all dual enrollment courses that their students take. As you know, CIAS does not charge a tuition fee that will cover these charges, and there is no money in our budget to cover these charges. These charges will affect current fall semester enrollment as well, retroactively. Other changes include qualifying requirements (requiring passing all three sections of the PERT or ACT/SAT) and raised PERT scores.
Until we are fully informed, CIAS will not be able to enroll any students for spring dual enrollment classes at this time. We will let you know as soon as we know something for certain. There may be several options available to you in the days ahead, affecting dual enrollment at PSC or UWF, graduation, and Florida Bright Futures Scholarship applications.
Bear with us as we gather details and seek to make arrangements regarding to these new changes.
Kind regards,
