Hello, Sophomores (currently in 10th grade) and Parent.
Are you planning on Dual Enrolling next year for your Junior year? Here are several things that you need to know.
1) New Dual Enrollment laws/statutes are in the midst of being proposed, so the way that all students (homeschool, private, and public) have dual enrolled in the state of Florida in the past may and/or will be changing after June 30. Stay tuned to further info emails from CIAS and be prepared to proactively support some of the current legislation that is being proposed in your favor!
2) Registration for both summer and fall terms of Dual Enrollment opens up the first week of April. Here is the link for the current Dual Enrollment info from PSC: www.pensacolastate.edu/program_page.asp?DeptID=6897&ProgID=961
3) You need to prepare for the PERT exam, which is the college entrance exam that allows you to participate in dial enrollment. At PSC, the info for taking the PERT is online here:
www.pensacolastate.edu/testingCenter/Pert.asp
The 23-page study guide to get you started is posted here: www.fldoe.org/schools/pdf/pert-studentstudyguide.pdf
In addition, CIAS has an additional PERT Math Study Guide that will be a valuable study resource for you. You may pick one up from the school office for $5.
Two other websites that our student have used in the past to thoroughly prep for the PERT are here:
www.testprepreview.com/accuplacer_practice.htm
www.number2.com/
4) You will need paperwork to get the Dual Enrollment process started. I have referral forms, enrollment forms, and everything else that you need to take both summer and fall classes. You may take the PERT with a free referral form once; after the initial test date, there is a $10 charge for all sub-test retakes.
5) There are several new PERT rules:
•You may take the PERT (or PERT sub-tests) unlimited times.
•You may re-take the PERT (or PERT sub-tests) once every 30 days
•You must now pass all three sections of the PERT (math, writing, reading) in order to qualify to dual enroll
6) Several of you have already made appointments to meet with me for Academic Planning for the coming year. If you have not already done so, please call the school office and set up you appointment as soon as possible: Hours 8-12, M-F.
Happy Spring!
