The CIAS Board held its annual meeting on Monday, September 21, 2015. The following policy regarding high school Volunteer Community Service has been changed. You may find all the new information about documenting VCS on our website here: tboomerj7.wix.com/christianinstitute#!community-service/cry5 Please refresh your browser to see the webpage update. 2) Community Service should be served with a NON-PROFIT organization. TRUE As much as possible, VCS needs to be completed at a non-profit organization. This is a CIAS requirement. Volunteering for a business and receiving no pay is NOT allowed. Non-profit organizations include schools, churches, YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, libraries, Habitat for Humanity, county and state parks, environmental preservation groups, community theatres, pet shelters, etc. Church OUTREACH activities are also acceptable. Examples are Food Pantries, Soup Kitchens, Summer Camps for children, VBS, After-School/Day Care, Mission Trips (domestic & foreign), etc. Other VCS activities that can be completed at churches include, but is not limited to, altar service, choir members, teaching Sunday School, nursery care, running slide shows, running sound or TV camera, and playing music for services. This is a CIAS policy change, as of September 25, 2015. Kind regards, Mary Beth Jones CIAS Principal
