Hello all, We have yet another battle for those who are interested. Many parents have voiced their concern about this situation to me , so I will share it to keep everyone informed.
The West Florida Library System has in their Children's Department a program called "Story Time" for 3-5 year olds. I just found out that they have a policy throughout their system that parents can NOT be in the class with their own children. Many parents stopped going altogether. I know a mother that was forced out of "Story Time" and they would not start until she left. I called the Children's Director and she said the reason for this is: 1) the parents were not behaving 2) the children need to learn from someone besides their parents and 3) they need to learn to socialize more. I explained that we, home educators, like to be with our children during times like these. That's way we home educate. We also like to know what our children are being taught. She kept insisting that it's much easier for her to do it this way. She also suggested that I call the County Commissioners so they will fund (from our tax dollars) a children's director for each branch. I informed here that we don't need more people, we need to be allowed to sit with our children during the normal time. Long story short; she wouldn't budge! I called the West Florida Library General Manager and she felt the same way. So...the phone rang at the county commissioner's office and the state representative's office. They said they would investigate it. Remember, YOU (the tax payer and voter) pay their salary. The County Commissioner's will listen. If you think this is worthy and would like to change the Library's current policy on "Story Time", please call the following numbers and voice your concerns. Thanks.
